Clinical Perfusion Specialist
Salary: Agenda for Change Band 8a plus HCA.
Guy's & St Thomas' Cardiovascular Department is one of the largest in the United Kingdom and within the directorate is the Department of Clinical Perfusionbased at St Thomas' Hospital.
The Perfusion department at Guy's and St Thomas' performs approximately 1200 adult and paediatric cardiac surgical bypass procedures per year whilst providing Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation support for acute respiratory failure for both adults and paediatrics. Other services supported include Trans Catheter Aortic Valve Surgery, Laser Lead Extractions and Intra Aortic Balloon Pump therapy.
Main duties of the job
An opportunity has arisen within the department to appoint a new Clinical Perfusion Specialist.
The successful candidate will have adult perfusion post qualification experience and join the team in its ongoing commitment to support cardiac surgery, adult ECMO services and a paediatric ECMO service.
Applicants to this post would also ideally have some ECMO and/or paediatric experience, although training and mentoring in either/both will be given as and where required.
Participation in the on-call rota is essential.
Newly qualified candidates would be considered, initially being employed at Band 7, with competency based progression to Band 8a.

- Provide highly specialist advice directly related to care delivery and technical aspects of treatment.
- Undertake significant out of hours commitment for autonomously managed, direct care delivery on a rota basis.
- Allocation of daily duties appropriate to skill mix in the absence of the Perfusion Manager or Deputy Manager.
- Responsible for the development and delivery of specialist training packages to trainees and members of the multidisciplinary team i.e. medical and nursing staff.
