Job summary
Guy's and St Thomas' Radiology is part of the Clinical Imaging and Medical Physics Directorate and has multiple departments on both hospital sites including Evelina London Children's Hospital and the Guy's Cancer Centre. It has an asset base in excess of £40m including many state of the art imaging systems delivering in excess of 400,000 examinations PA. The department is strongly engaged in a transformational agenda to drive efficiency and quality but to also examine how imaging positively impacts on patient outcomes. The directorate is QSI accredited.
We support a wide range of Clinical Specialities and as well as offering Diagnostic Imaging, we perform Interventional and Therapeutic procedures using image guidance. The department also has significant research activity and a commitment to multidisciplinary training and education.
Main duties of the job
The duties and responsibilities of the post-holder require service delivery in a wide range of clinical environments as well as to a diversity of patient presentations.
Radiographers will be required to practice on both hospital sites and will involve lone working in particular specialties and at particular times.The service is delivered on a 24/7 basis and includes working in areas such as the Emergency Department, Theatres, General x-ray & fluoroscopy, Neonatal Unit and Intensive Care Units. Patient presentation willinclude the unconscious, uncooperative, incapacitated, incompetent, disorientated and those with physical and mental disabilities. A wide variety of patients will be encountered and will include those exhibiting antisocial or threatening behaviour.
The post holder will possess excellent inter-professional communication skills which will be essential for liaising with other radiographers, doctors, nurses, other allied health professionals and healthcare workersand administrative staff at all levels of seniority.
Other influencing factors include the skills needed to provide patients or relatives with empathy and emotional support for the bereaved, terminally ill, injured, traumatised or those altered by substanceuse/abuse.
