Project Manager - Surgical Strategy

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 19 September 2024

Job summary

A Surgical Strategy was developed for Guy's and St Thomas's sites in 2021. This involved engaging with over 200 colleagues across our clinical services, as well as patients and our executive and non-executive directors. Its focus is on how we develop and run surgical services that will benefit our patients, staff, and partners in south east London. There are several live workstreams and projects.

The Surgical Strategy requires dedicated project management to continue to deliver the strategy implementation. The Project Manager will ensure that key activities within a number of workstreams are delivered, supporting the Programme Manager to deliver the strategic implementation and improvement plans effectively. You will work closely with the Surgical Strategy Team, clinical and operational teams, corporate and sector partners, and senior leaders in our organisation.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for providing project management and support to ensure the Surgical Strategy is delivered effectively.

The post holder will take a lead on two or more projects and be responsible for planning, day-to-day delivery, and subsequent performance management, adjusting plans as required to ensure that risks and issues are mitigated. The two projects may include:

Global Surgery:

With the support of a GSTT surgeon, lead the development of a global surgery programme at the Trust, including designing an implementation plan, KPIs and milestones, managing a steering group, and holding larger stakeholder events for feedback and direction.

Patient Engagement:

Leading on the patient engagement project within the Surgical Strategy. This would require working closely with the GSTT consultant leading the project, the Patient Engagement Team, and the Patient Steering Group.

The post holder will work with clinicians and managers to ensure provision of the best possible patient experience and service delivery. They will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective management of interdependencies and delivery of objectives.

It is expected that the specific projects managed by the post holder will change over time, as the portfolio of work develops. The post holder should be comfortable adapting to an environment where things can change, be flexible, and have the ability to drive projects forward in spite of challenges.
