Job summary
We are seeking to appoint a full-time Consultant Cardiologist in Heart Failure. The Trust is the largest cardio-thoracic centre in the UK and is at the international leading edge of the investigation, treatment and care of patients with heart and lung disease. The Heart Failure firm manages patients from a wide variety of different cardiac specialities both on an inpatient and outpatient basis. It provides input to multidisciplinary team meetings and undertakes research at a national and international level. The High dependency unit provides dedicated level 2 care for up to 14 patients on cardiology, cardiac and thoracic treatment pathways. The HDU team comprises of 7 consultants from a range of specialties who provide 24-7 senior medical cover for the unit.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will work alongside the existing heart failure consultants in the Heart Division. He/she will undertake clinical and research activities including overseeing the organisation of out-patient (including outreach clinics) and inpatient care, research and audit. The Consultant will also participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and review inpatient referrals.
With regards to the Critical care aspect of the post, the successful candidate will be a member of the HDU Consultant team, undertaking ward rounds, on call duties and other aspects of care in the High Dependency Unit and in the outreach service.
About us
The post will predominantly be located at the Royal Brompton Hospital site, London, SW3 6NP, with links to the Harefield Hospital site and other Trusts as agreed with the Chair of Heart Failure and the Director of Critical care.
The post holder will be expected to have full training in cardiology including a sub-specialist interest in Heart Failure. The successful candidate must be on or within three months of entry to the Specialist Register and be fully registered with the GMC or will already be an established Consultant Cardiologist.
