Job summary

We are looking for a Senior Specialist Paediatric Respiratory Physiotherapist with wide experience in respiratory care to join our Hospital at Home team for a 12-month fixed term new post. It is 0.6 WTE, 22.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside the hospital at home team providing respiratory physiotherapy advice and treatment to patients in their home environment and to facilitate early discharge from hospital and prevention of admissions.

This is an exciting new role that provides opportunity for shaping a new service. The post holder will be embedded within the hospital at home team whilst working closely with the inpatient LTV/chronic respiratory physiotherapy team. There will be opportunity for peer support with the inpatient team including complex patient discussion meetings. Shared supervision and on call training will be provided by the inpatient physiotherapy team. As part of this role will be the initiation and adjustment of respiratory physiotherapy treatment plans, including clear escalation and weaning plans. The post holder will demonstrate advanced skills in the use of a wide range of treatment skills and respiratory physiotherapy devices including cough assist, the oscillating vest and various airway clearance adjuncts. The post holder will organise and carry out training for patients, parents, carers, schools and where appropriate to the wider MDT.

  • Diploma / Degree in Physiotherapy/ HCPC Registration.
  • MSc in relevant subject or equivalent level of post-graduate specialist training including short courses or specific training in relevant area.

Desirable

  • Post graduate course(s) in management or leadership.
  • Membership of relevant National SIG - e.g. APCP/APCRP.

Previous experience

Essential

  • Extensive post-registration experience including experience of respiratory physiotherapy management including LTV, neuromuscular respiratory dysfunction, acute and chronic respiratory conditions.
  • Broad range of experience at Band 5 level including respiratory, rehabilitation and out patients. Significant experience in a range of Paediatric Care at band 6 (neuro, ortho, resp, developmental, community care, and musculoskeletal).
  • Significant experience of working as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, including those with complex team dynamics. Experience of multidisciplinary goal planning, development of care pathways and using outcome measures.
  • Experience of managing other physiotherapists, student supervision/clinical education.
  • Experience of service development / change management.
