Job summary

The appointment is primarily based at the Evelina London Children's Hospital at on the St Thomas' site, and also requires out of hours emergency activity at Guy's Hospital. The position is full-time and will include an on-call commitment at an experienced SpR level. The successful candidate will be working closely with Mr Sean Blaney, Mr Ian Hore, Mr Dan Tweedie, Miss Victoria Possamai, Mr Chris Pepper, Miss Lily Jablenska, Miss Louisa Ferguson, Mr Nikul Amin, Miss Shradha Sharma as well as the adult Consultants when on call. It offers the opportunity to undertake specialised experience in Paediatric ENT, especially the management of Airway obstruction, by both endoscopic and open techniques working as part of a multidisciplinary team. The team also provide complex otology, head and neck, routine paediatric ENT clinics and surgery. There will be excellent opportunities to participate in clinical research and some undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and audit is required. Candidates should have appropriate experience, holding or shortly be due to obtain their CCST in Otolaryngology or be of an equivalent standard.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will, under the relevant consultants be responsible for the provision of specialist ENT services to the Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital Trust. This will include:

  1. Taking a key role in the Paediatric Airway Service, including managing referrals from Paediatric Intensive Care, and Neonatal Intensive Care Units within the hospital.
  2. Outpatient Clinics.
  3. Elective and emergency surgery.

As an organisation we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This means that some staff groups will increasingly be asked to work a more flexible shift pattern so that we can offer services in the evenings or at weekends.

About us

ENT at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, and the Evelina London Childrens Hospital, provides tertiary referral Paediatric ENT, head and neck cancer, skull base, rhinology/facial plastics and otology, including implantation. It also provides general secondary level ENT services to Lambeth and Southwark.

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Medical degree - MBBS or equivalent.
  • GMC Registration

Desirable

  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications (e.g. Master degree or PGC in clinical education)
  • Child protection training.

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 6 months paediatric ENT experience
  • Understanding and awareness of particular requirements and demands of working with children and their parents.
  • Demonstrates reflective approach to practice and commitment to personal development

Desirable

  • Tertiary Paediatric ENT experience
  • Previous paediatric or neonatal medical experience

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Evidence of experience in clinical procedures relevant to post
