Job summary
Medical Physics provides a comprehensive range of scientific and technical services to all of the Trust's main acute and community sites. The core purpose of the Medical Equipment Management Services (MEMS) Section, in which this post is based, is provision of repair, calibration and maintenance to a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment, to ensure equipment operates effectively and safely with a minimum of downtime. This opportunity will support operational activities across our workshops sites and you may be required to work at a different site depending on the work demand. The apprenticeship is an 18-month fixed term training contract, with the expectation of extension for a further 2 years to complete Level 4. The entry requirement for the apprenticeship is 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 minimum (must include Maths, English, Science or Technology), or other equivalent qualification. There will be a gateway assessment after 1 year, which the apprentice will need to pass in order to continue on the programme. You will need to have an appropriate qualification, technical skills and aptitude; though training, support and career development opportunities can be provided. This post would be ideally suited to an applicant able to motivate themselves from an interest in getting involved in the operations and productivity of an acute hospitals trust and having a concern for the quality of support delivered to frontline clinical services.
Main duties of the job
Under the supervision of a member of MEMS/RES, undertake repair, calibration and maintenance of a range of medical equipment located in Trust wards, department and community services.
Integrate conflicting elements and work to international standards and departmental quality system when identifying, evaluating and selecting solutions. Use computer aided design software to prepare drawings and evaluate specifications.
In association with the Head of the MEMS/RES and other staff, identify customer requirements. Review requirements against safety and other standards to identify conflicting issues, and any limitations and implications.
Assist with the risk assessment and evaluation of devices.
Adapt existing equipment to meet changing customer requirements.
Carry out calibration and quality control on a range of medical equipment under supervision of a member of MEMS/RES.
Work carried out will comply with set procedures and conform to the appropriate quality and safety standards as directed a member of MEMS/RES Workshop.
Take responsibility for the quality of own work produced.
