Job summary
The Lung and Heart day unit is a developing service offering cardiac and respiratory patients' diagnosis, treatment and management of chronic medical condition in a day case setting. Patients come to the unit for procedures such as chest drain management, biologic treatment, immunoglobulin treatment administered intravenously or subcutaneously and cytotoxic therapy.
We are open Monday to Friday 0800hrs- 2000hrs and manage a wide variety of specialist services within cardiac and respiratory nursing field. These include PH, ACHD both adult and transitional, post thoracic and cardiac surgery patients, Interstitial Lung Disease, Host Defence patients, Cystic fibrosis, Asthma and allergy, Lung failure including sleep and ventilation.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside a dynamic team who are experts in their specialism. This includes a diverse multi-disciplinary team including, Matron, Ward Sister, Staff nurses band 5 and 6, HCA, Practice Educator, specialist CNS in their field, chest physiotherapists, OT, speech and language therapist, dieticians, palliative care, research nurses, psychologists and reendowed consultants in their field.

Main duties of the job
At Royal Brompton you will be given the opportunity to build your confidence and advance and develop in your clinical skills and knowledge in both cardiac and respiratory nursing. You will learn to efficiently prioritise and become an autonomous nurse supporting ambulatory patients with their treatment and co ordination of investigations. You will learn to support patients in teaching them to do their home intravenous and Sub cut treatments.
In addition, you will be able to develop clinical skills like inserting and manging intravenous lines or managerial skills and a wide variety of inhouse courses including leadership to tailor and support you learning programme to meet your career pathway.
