Job summary

Staff in the Mechanical Workshop Section of Medical Physics undertake the design, development and manufacture of medical and other devices for multiple clients in the Trust and in King's College London. Work is carried out for areas providing direct patient care, for research groups and to support the overall quality of Trust services. Staff also undertake equipment repairs, modifications and servicing, and produce items for radiotherapy patient treatments. Primary users of the service are the Radiotherapy department, PET Centre, other parts of medical physics and many other departments in the Trust and in King's College London.

Main duties of the job

The Mechanical Workshop at Guy's and St Thomas' has facilities on both hospital sites. The workshops have a wide range of equipment including CAD/CAM manufacturing capabilities and access to 3D printing, with well-equipped engineering workshops on both sites. Activities are carried out under ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 quality systems.

About us

We are looking for a Mechanical Workshop Technician to join a team of five engineers in this important area. With busy clinical services and active research and innovation activity across the Trust, there are multiple opportunities to use your existing and develop new skills.

Applicants will be expected to have a genuine affinity to the Trust's values; putting patients first in all they do. High standards of spoken and written communication and interpersonal skills will be an advantage, as well as some understanding of the modern healthcare environment.This post would be ideally suited to an applicant able to motivate themselves from an interest in getting involved in the operations and productivity of an acute hospitals trust and having a concern for the quality of support delivered to frontline clinical services.
