Job summary

Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals are looking for a new Medicines Distribution Manager to lead the Pharmacy Stores service at both sites.

The post holder must:

  • Have extensive knowledge and experience of working in supply chain
  • Be a positive, enthusiastic and flexible leader
  • Be an excellent people manager
  • Be able to manage multiple lines of work at the same time
  • Lead the team towards meeting objectives and KPIs set by the Pharmacy Supply Chain Manager and Associate Director for Pharmacy Operations.
  • Support in driving innovation and quality improvement

Main duties of the job

The Medicines Distribution Manager will report to the Pharmacy Supply Chain Manager and will be responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of stocked drugs to clinical areas, as well as stock management within the Stores area.

The post holder will be responsible for the management and day-to-day operations of the Stores teams based at the Guy's site and St Thomas' sites. They will also work very closely with the Pharmacy Distribution Automated Cabinet Manager to deliver the ward automation service and will be required to cover for them during absences.

The post holder will also support the Deputy Responsible Person for the Wholesale Dealer's Authorisation in ensuring the site meets regulatory standards.

About us

The Pharmacy Stores teams comprise of over 30 employees and deliver medication to over 100 Omnicell cabinets at the Guy's, Evelina and St Thomas' sites.

The teams are also responsible for manual top-ups as well as processing requests for our customers off site and in the community, as well as processing Pharmacy IT tickets relating to Omnicell and stock list amendments.

Patient safety is at the core of everything we do in Pharmacy Stores, so the post holder will be expected to work closely with the medicines safety leads to oversee governance and risk management within our service.

The Trust is committed to supporting all staff maintain a healthy work life balance and so the post holder will be expected to work at each site for two days per week and work from home one day per week.

Professional Registration

Essential

  • Has a valid registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC

Qualifications/Education

Essential

  • Relevant underpinning management knowledge or working towards a qualification e.g. CMS/DMS/MBA post graduate studies or equivalent

Desirable

  • Qualification in logistics and supply

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Management in a hospital setting dealing with complex supply and distribution of medicines.

Skills/Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of all regulations and legislation relevant to distribution including Wholesale Dealers Licence and Good Distribution Practice (GDP)
  • Omnicell systems administration skills
