Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and highly motivated Health Play Specialist to join our caring, friendly and busy Neurofibromatosis (NF) team at the National Neurofibromatosis Centre at Guy's Hospital. The successful candidate will be working within an out-patient setting, working with children and their families who have Neurofibromatosis Type 1, which is a genetic, lifelong condition. We are looking for someone who is empathetic, fun and able to adapt to children who may have a range of learning difficulties up to and including transition to our adult service. Training will be given on the condition.
The post holder will be able to support a welcoming play environment and develop materials to guide children through their out-patient experience. You will work alongside an experienced MDT and be adaptable and have good communication skills.
The post holder will need to work 8.30-4.30 on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month and 9-12pm on either the 1st or 3rd Tuesday of the month.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be expected to work as part of a large MDT within the Neurofibromatosis Centre out-patients department at Guy's Hospital.
To provide safe, individualised play support, distraction and supervision to children attending the NF National centre out patients department
Develop resources to guide children through the out-patient experience and ensure a welcoming, play environment
Ensure links with departments such as MRI within the Evelina Children's Hospital.
Mentoring/supervision will be given by the Evelina Play Lead
The post holder will need to work 8.30-4.30 on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month and 9-12pm on either the 1st or 3rd Tuesday of the month.
