To develop the genomics capability and capacity of the current and future NHS workforce, and to embed genomics into mainstream clinical pathways, the South East GMS is delivering an ambitious programme of workforce engagement, education and training across the region.

It is an exciting time to join this innovative healthcare field as genomics gathers pace across multiple areas of medicine, delivering better and faster outcomes for patients. The post holder will have the opportunity to create meaningful impact in a cutting-edge genomics service in the NHS, working on regional programmes of change.

The post holder will have exceptional drive and take a flexible approach in responding to changing demands. They will have experience working with multidisciplinary teams across multiple organisations.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for planning, organising and promoting our engagement, education and training events. They will work closely with the Communications & Involvement Lead, the Education & Training Leads and further members of the South East GMS to ensure that engagement, education and training events are scoped, planned, promoted and delivered for maximal impact.

The post holder will be responsible for leading individual packages of work across the GMS aligned to the Education & Training and Communications & Involvement strategies. This will include delegated responsibility for programme tasks alongside general project support and planning. The role will also provide a comprehensive administrative function to ensure effective delivery of the service.

The post holder will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including clinicians and patients, to ensure effective management of resources and delivery of objectives.

The post holder will ensure that all tasks are designed and delivered in a patient centred way, ensuring that the needs of patients are central to all service change and pathway transformation.

The post holder will ensure all tasks are designed and delivered in alignment with the GMS's commitment to reducing variation and to delivering equity of access across our diverse population, including alignment with the SE GMS equality, diversity and inclusion strategy.

About us

The South East Genomic Medicine Service Alliance (SE GMSA) was formally established in December 2020 and is led by a partnership between Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The NHS GMS Alliances support the systematic implementation of genomic medicine into routine care in line with the NHS genomics strategy and the NHS Long Term Plan ambitions. We aim to combine clinical expertise, an excellent track record in research, education and training, and involvement from our patients and public to achieve a step change in delivering genomics medicine for our population.

The NHS GMS Alliance's responsibilities include embedding equitable access to standardised end-to-end pathways of care, inclusive of genomic testing, clinical genetics and genomic counselling services through pathway transformation and multi-disciplinary education and training; supporting access to treatments and medicine optimisation driven by comprehensive genomic and diagnostic characterisation; and providing clinical leadership and coordination across the Alliance geography.

The SE GMSA is committed to addressing the health inequalities and inequitable access to genomic medicine services. We will support this work by appointing a team that represents the diversity that exists across our region, strengthening our links with primary and secondary care, and ensuring that we have strong patient representation across all our programmes.
