Locum Consultant in Hand Surgery

Fixed Term - 12 months

Part-Time - 10 PAs

The hand Unit is seeking a Consultant to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking team. The department is currently looking to expand and develop its services to keep the service in the forefront of clinical and academic excellence and so are looking for an individual with appropriate skills to complement this team.

The GSTT hand and wrist service has evolved into a world class multidisciplinary Hand Unit. We are looking for an individual with appropriate skills to complement the team. The Department offers a wide range of services to patients in the hand and wrist unit. The consultant will help run and develop these services across the St Thomas' and Guy's hospital sites. The post-holder will undertake outpatient sessions and operating lists, attend MDT meetings and they will be expected to take an active role in the teaching programme of the wider department. Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will provide a Hand Surgery service in conjunction with colleagues
  • The post holder will have a specialist expertise in hand surgery
  • The post holder will participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care
  • The post holder will work with the Hand Leads to improve service provision within the Hand and Wrist Unit.
  • The post holder will take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training
  • The post holder will contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development, including support of satellite sites across London
  • The post holder will assist in the future development of the Hand and Wrist Unit

Directorate Responsibilities:

  • Providing clinical excellence for our patients, both elective and trauma pathways
  • Achieving 18 weeks referral to treatment targets for both admitted and non-admitted pathways
  • Reducing new to follow up ratios in outpatient clinics

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Comprehensive clinical experience in hand surgery, on a day case and inpatient basis

Desirable

  • Broad experience of wrist surgery

Professional Qualifications

Essential

  • Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practise
  • On GMC Specialist Register or within six months of attaining CCT
  • FRCS (Plast) or (Orth)

Desirable

  • Other relevant postgraduate qualifications (e.g. MD, PhD, MS, MSc)
  • Previous Consultant level experience
  • Completion of post-CCT Hand/Appropriate Fellowship
  • Diploma in Hand Surgery (British or European)

Research and audit
