Job responsibilities

To provide a high-quality expert Occupational Therapy Service to a specialist caseload of inpatients with a diagnosis of Stroke and Neurological conditions.

To support teams of Occupational Therapists providing leadership for junior staff, Technical Instructors and Occupational Therapy Assistants through supervision and performance management.

To assist junior staff in the management of complex cases requiring advanced clinical reasoning.

To lead and advise on clinical Occupational Therapy developments within the stroke/neurology service and related Trust wide projects.

To be responsible for the maintenance and development of own CPD identifying and contributing to the evidence base of Occupational Therapy.

To educate Occupational Therapy Students on practice placements.

To support the management of the Occupational Therapy Service as required by the Heads of Service.

Skills

Essential

• Specialist knowledge, understanding and application of Occupational Therapy process relating to client centred practice
• Demonstrate sound techniques in applying a range of sensory, physical and manual assessments and treatments
• Understanding of different neurological clinical presentations, and how they can impact on function
• Demonstrate clinical leadership skills and excellent team building skills
• Proven experience in developing and providing education and teaching programmes to other professionals and students
• Proven experience of quality improvement and audit

Experience

Essential

• Clinical experience commensurate with the post with clinical experience in physical disability.
• High standard of performance in a range of clinical skills with a neurological caseload.
• Evidence of continuing professional development and post registration education and training.

Desirable

• Experience of research

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential

• Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
• HCPC Registration

Desirable

• Masters level qualification
• Research or publication in specialist area
• Member of the RCOT Specialist Section in Neurological Practice
