Main duties of the job

The Orthopaedic Surgery Department at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust offers subspecialist interests across Orthopaedics including Upper Limb, Hip Primary/Revision Arthroplasty, Young Adult Hip, Knee Primary/Revision Arthroplasty, Soft Tissue Knee, Hand & Wrist, Foot & Ankle and a Spinal Service. The Department seeks to appoint 1 x trust doctor to join a team of 29 consultants, 12 SpRs, 10 Senior Fellows and another 11 SHOs.

This post will allow the candidates to get a breadth of knowledge and experience across all Orthopaedic Specialties. The successful candidates will also be expected to participate in the orthopaedic on-call rota with an active role as part of the trauma team. The post is suitable for those seeking further surgical experience in preparation for surgical training and those looking to broaden their trauma experience. You will be expected to take an active part in weekly departmental teaching and participate in research projects.

The candidates will be expected to participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care

A range of specialised surgery is undertaken across both sites and thesuccessful applicant will be encouraged to attend these sessions in order todevelop a broad interest in all aspects of orthopaedic surgery and to furthertheir Medical training.

You will be expected to actively participate in the departments audit andclinical governance activities with appraisal.This post is established to allow the Trust to meet productivity requirements.

The successful applicant will be required to take part in the Orthopaedic SHO Level Doctor Duty, including on call rota at St Thomas and Ward Cover at Guys.

The timetable will vary according to the needs of the department and thesuccessful applicants experience and duties, but will normally contain a mixof the various categories of work suitable for extending your training andexperience.
