Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust

Physiotherapy Lead - Pan Thames Paediatric LTV Programme

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

The lack of paediatric LTV physiotherapy skills across South and North Thames Paediatric Networks poses a risk to the delivery of safe management of Children and Young People on LTV who present acutely unwell to ED. This often results in these patients deteriorating in their local hospital and having to be transferred to a Tertiary Centre.

The Pan Thames Paediatric Long Term Ventilation (LTV) Programme is recruiting a Physiotherapy Lead to review physiotherapy workforce and upskill staff (in both acute Trusts and in the community) with adequate physio skills. The aim is to reduce hospital admissions and transfers of CYP on LTV to a Tertiary Centre.

Main duties of the job

The proposed role will work independently and focus on four aspects:

  1. Mapping physiotherapy provision across the South and North Thames Paediatric Networks to canvas need and what is required;
  2. Develop and deliver a comprehensive MDT education and training programme focusing primarily on acute Trusts but also clearly articulating the education and training needs in the community;
  3. Create escalation procedures and bespoke best practice pathways between DGHs and tertiary centres to avoid admissions and prevent transfers;
  4. Work with the local teams to identify barriers and sustainable long-term solutions and support them with the development of business cases.
  • The proposed role will champion and lead the delivery of the Pan Thames Paediatric LTV programme's priorities from a physiotherapy (and when required from a wider AHP) perspective.
  • The proposed role will work collaboratively with the programme team and the provider and commissioning colleagues across the region.

About us

Geographically, the programme covers the North Thames Paediatric Network (North London and bordering East of England Trusts), and the South Thames Paediatric Network (South London, Kent and Medway, Surrey Heartlands, Sussex).

The post holder will join a multi disciplinary team of highly passionate individuals. More information on our team can be found here .

The post holder will be asked to be in our offices based in Waterloo (St Thomas' hospital) and in Russell Square (Great Ormond Street hospital) at least two days a week, when not delivering training on site.
