Job summary

We are delighted to be recruiting to a permanent 0.8 WTE band 8a post in Paediatric Psychology at the Evelina London Children's Hospital.

The post-holder will be based within the diverse and welcomingPaediatric Psychology service at the Evelina London (Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust), with the post being split across the paediatric neurology and inherited metabolic disease services.

We are looking for a motivated psychologist with an interest in working with children, young people and families with complex health conditions experiencing associated psychological distress or difficulties, as well as in working with professional colleagues in a collaborative manner to provide high quality holistic care.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will work within the multidisciplinary teams providing care for children and young people under the care of the Evelina London with a variety of neurological conditions and inherited metabolic diseases. The role is a varied one, with opportunity for both inpatient and outpatient working, as well as having an important component of MDT working, liaison and consultation.

The post includes holding oversight of the psychology provision to the neurometabolic teams and will include the line management and supervision of a band 7 practitioner psychologist.

An exciting specific role of the current post will be the development of an embedded psychology model into the MS clinics. Whilst psychology has long been linked with the service, new funding will allow further service development and assessment of how a more dedicated provision can best meet the needs of the population served.

Being within the Paediatric Psychology Service offers good opportunities for collaborative working with other team members, audit & research, teaching and training. We meet regularlyas a team to explore clinical dilemmas and share new learnings across our diverse services. Supervision will be provided by an experienced Psychologist within the team. Additional opportunities include but do not stop with; reflective practice groups, peer supervision as well as SIG networks across the South East and nationally.Service relevant CPD is actively encouraged.

  • Doctorate level qualification in clinical psychology, counselling psychology or health psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS)
  • HCPC Registration as Practitioner Psychologist

Experience

Essential

  • Experience delivering highly skilled psychological assessments, interventions, follow-up and data monitoring across at least 2 populations (one of which must be paediatric) utilising at least 2 therapeutic models including CBT.
  • Experience of supervising pre-qualified psychologists including post-graduate students and other disciplines.
  • Expertise working with a wide variety of client groups, and across the full range of clinical severity.

Desirable

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of children and young people with physical health problems and a range of psychological needs of a complex nature
  • Experience of setting up new services
  • Experience of working with young people presenting with functional symptoms
  • Experience of supporting children who have a diagnosis of MS
