We are seeking a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist in Paediatric Cardiology, a highly specialised field, working with children and young people from 0-16 years of age.

We currently have vacancy to cover maternity leave for a fixed period of 12 months. The post-holder will work cross-site and in our network to advise, educate and support children, young people, their families and carers, helping them to navigate their journey from diagnosis, through cardiac intervention and surgery, to transfer to adult services, ensuring they have access to relevant, up to date information and education about their condition.

Main duties of the job

The role of a Paediatric Cardiology Nurse Specialist is to provide up-to-date education and support to children, young people and their families on their journey through paediatric services. The scope is broad, supporting children from birth to 16 years of age, at new diagnosis or following antenatal diagnosis, through cardiac intervention and surgery, discharge or transfer to adult services. Expert knowledge and expertise and shared and utilised to support local health services and education settings.

This role is across the Lifelong Network, supporting the children and families seen by the Paediatric cardiology teams at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, and at Evelina London.

There is great opportunity to be involved in service development, local and national education, also audit and research. Evidence of experience in these areas is preferable.

The successful candidate will be kind and compassionate, be an excellent communicator, a great team player, be a critical problem solver, be able to multitask, and to use basic computer software such as Windows, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Extensive experience looking after children and young people with congenital heart disease
