Job summary
We are seeking a motivated individual to join our Foot Health/Podiatry team as a Podiatry Apprentice. This unique opportunity allows you to earn a degree (BSc) while gaining valuable hands-on experience.
About the Apprenticeship
- Duration: 4 years
- Location: On-the-job learning within our service, with 1-day release to the University of East London (UEL) per week for coursework and clinical placements.
- Academic Partner: University of East London (UEL), Stratford campus
- Start Date: September 2024
- Support: On-the-job mentorship, peer support through the Guys & St Thomas AHP Apprenticeship Forum, and a dedicated Personal Tutor from UEL.
- Career Pathway: Graduates are eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to become Registered Podiatrists.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide patient care under the supervision of a Podiatrist, adhering to clinical protocols.
- Actively participate in multi-disciplinary patient care meetings.
- Assist with non-clinical and administrative tasks as needed.
- Attend university sessions and clinical placements as required by the degree program.
- Successfully complete academic modules and clinical placements to progress through the program.
- Take on increasing responsibility as you gain experience, with guidance from a work-based mentor and team lead.

Main duties of the job

To attend University and clinical placements as set out in the degree programme.

To complete and pass academic modules and clinical placements to the required standard in order to progress through the programme.

To ensure timely achievement in accordance with the academic programme requirements.

To complete and pass the End Point Assessment

To organise and manage a clinical caseload, mapped against evolving capability, which will include gaining knowledge and experience of providing Podiatry care for patients with a variety of conditions (including diabetes, musculoskeletal, rheumatological and vascular conditions).

To gain knowledge and skills (analytical and reasoning) to assess, diagnose, develop and implement individualised treatment programmes for patients with a wide variety of clinical needs encompassing both acute & long-term conditions

To empower the patient and others to participate in the patients' self-care and aim to enhance person-centred care.

To gain experience during the period of the apprenticeship in a wide range of clinical areas for example diabetic outpatients, vascular, community outpatients, rheumatology and musculoskeletal, and domiciliary / home visits.
