Job responsibilities

As a Podiatry Apprentice, you will balance academic study with practical clinical experience. You'll attend university courses and clinical placements, complete academic modules and placements to progress, and pass the End Point Assessment. You'll manage a diverse caseload of patients, gaining experience in assessing, diagnosing, and treating various foot conditions. You will empower patients to participate in their care, and you'll work in various clinical settings, such as diabetic outpatients and home visits.

Your patient care responsibilities will involve providing care within your competencies under the guidance of a Podiatrist. You'll assess and diagnose patients, formulate care plans, carry out treatments, and monitor patient progress. You will educate patients and their carers, contribute to the clinical team, and participate in joint visit sessions. You'll also promote the value of podiatry, carry out risk assessments, and maintain accurate patient records. Additionally, you'll be involved in audit activities, plan your workload, manage resources, and participate in education and supervision activities.

Effective communication will be essential in your role, as you'll work with other staff, community members, and patients. You'll attend meetings, liaise with administrative staff, and maintain positive interpersonal relationships. You'll report to podiatrists or mentors and ensure confidential information is handled sensitively.

The work can be physically demanding and involve emotional situations, requiring empathy and resilience. You'll need to manage your time effectively and seek support when needed.

Qualifications/ Education

Essential

• Applicants to this course must present with qualifications that meet the necessary requirements

Desirable

• Postgraduate Applicants - normally a minimum of 2:1 degree in a relevant subject

Previous experience

Essential

• Previous experience of working within a health / care setting

Desirable

• Experience as a FCA.

Essential

• Possesses excellent communication, adaptability, and logistical skills to effectively deliver healthcare services in diverse settings.
• Proficient in IT and communication, with strong organizational and problem-solving skills to prioritize patient care and adapt to changing circumstances.
• Possesses strong interpersonal skills, maintains professional boundaries, handles distressing information with empathy, collaborates effectively within a team, and works comfortably in challenging clinical environments.
