Engineering Maintenance Specialist - Mechanical Fitter Bias

Job summary

The Engineering Department at Guys Hospital are looking for an Engineering Maintenance Specialist to carry out scheduled pre-planned maintenance activities and to attend reactive works on the trust's estate.

Work is assigned using the Planet and Zetasafe programs so an awareness of these types of CAFM systems would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job

  • Carry out the responsibilities of an authorised person for one or more of the following:
    • Piped Medical Gases
    • Ventilation systems
    • Confined Spaces
    • Pressure Systems
    • Responsible person duties for Legionella
  • To carry out routine maintenance (PPM) of complex mechanical/ electrical plant and services as directed by the Team Manager.
  • To attend to plant breakdowns to carry out repairs and restore the units to service as quickly and efficiency as possible.
  • To be able to carry out installation work for all types of pipe work and fitting
  • To prepare or assist in the preparation of plant for statutory inspection
  • Working with hydraulic and pneumatic control systems
  • Is conversant with H.T.H.W. M.T.H.W. L.P.H.W. and Steam Heating Systems
  • Plan interruptions of engineering services in close liaison with both engineering and clinical managers
  • Coach and mentor for other junior staff, i.e. apprentices and maintenance assistants

Qualifications

Essential

  • Served a recognised apprenticeship in relevant Mechanical trade (i.e. Mechanical installation, Mechanical Maintenance, Controls & Process Engineering)
  • Level 3 (or higher) vocational trade certificate in a Mechanical engineering discipline E.g. NVQ 3, C&G Level 3 or Equivalent Armed Forces Qualification

Desirable

  • HTM or JSP Specific Competent Persons Certificates.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH Health and Safety Certificate

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Sound working knowledge of Mechanical systems such as HVAC, building management systems, process control systems
  • Relevant and recent experience in a commercial/industrial maintenance post
  • Experience working within a broad range of occupational guidelines
  • Experience of managing an area of maintenance
  • Experience of implementing Health and Safety polices and protocols
  • Experience communicating technical information with specialists and non-specialist staff members
  • Experience providing a responsive service to the customer within agreed time and cost restraints

Desirable

  • Relevant and recent experience in healthcare engineering
  • Knowledge of other trade topics (Plumbing, Electrical, Building etc)
