Job summary

Job Title: Clinical Fellow in Radiology

Location: Harefield Hospital Site

This 24-month post is for a clinical fellow who will spend 24 months being trained in cardio-thoracic radiology and contributing to the radiology service at Harefield Hospital. The training programme will include cardiac and thoracic CT, intervention procedures, ultrasound, plain film and some cardiovascular MRI.

Main duties of the job

  • To assist in the running of the clinical radiology service under the direction of the Clinical Lead, including thoracic interventional procedures
  • Depending on the mutually agreed post duration, the fellow will be expected to gain competence in advanced cardiac CT reporting and thoracic interventional techniques . for the appropriate candidate, a level 2 accreditation may be possible in CMR.
  • There are no formalised research duties in the job plan for this position. However, depending on the individual and the mutually-agreed duration of the post, the fellow may be involved in radiology research and peer-reviewed publication.
  • To maintain a high standard of patient care at all times. To liaise with the superintendent radiographers with regard to clinical service issues.
  • There is an on call responsibility as part of the role and it is currently a 1:5 rota

About us

Harefield Hospital is the largest advanced heart and lung failure and cardiothoracic transplant centre in the UK and the regional primary angioplasty centre.

The Harefield Radiology Department accepts both internal and external referrals for a wide range of clinical indications. It comprises of two CT scanners, two MRI scanners, two ultrasound machines and two general imaging rooms (one with fluoro capability).

The radiology department is a regional referral centre for Cardiac CT and MRI and thoracic intervention.

The radiology department is led by Dr Paras Dalal, with 3 additional consultants; Dr Tarun Mittal, Dr Evangelos Skondras and Dr Saeed Mirsadraee.

  • To maintain a high standard of patient care at all times.
  • To liaise with the Imaging Superintendents with regard to clinical service issues.
  • To ensure appropriate infection control measures are utilised when necessary. Paying particular attention to personal protection as well as the management of equipment and linens.
  • To observe safety regulations with particular regard to the Local Rules and the Health and Safety at Work Act.
  • To communicate appropriately with other members of staff, giving support and advice where necessary.
  • To train radiographers, technologists and other doctors
  • The post holder will maintain good working relationships with multidisciplinary team within the hospital.
  • To liaise with other departments/wards within the hospital and various external sources in order to provide a quality service to patients and clinicians.
  • To communicate appropriately with other members of staff, giving support and advice where necessary.
  • To communicate effectively and empathetically with patients and their escorts prior to, during and after an examination and to assess specific communication needs of individual patients.
  • To use tact and sensitivity when asking personal questions, e.g. checking pregnancy status before an examination.
  • To explain procedures and reassure patients who may have concerns r in order to gain their cooperation.
  • To report any equipment failure to the Imaging Superintendents

  • Full GMC registration
  • CCT in Clinical Radiology
  • MB BS or equivalent

Desirable

  • FRCR or equivalent
  • Training and qualification in cardiac imaging
