Apprenticeship Pre Registration Pharmacy Technician

Job summary

The post holder will participate in a pre-registration trainee pharmacy technician rotational training programme.

The rotation will be split between medicines optimisation on the wards and Dispensary including rotating through distribution, stores and purchasing.

Sites covered on the rota will include, Guy's, St Thomas, Evelina London and The Royal Brompton.

A qualified pharmacy technician or pharmacist will supervise duties.

The student must take responsibility for self-development and timely completion of Pearson BTEC Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians within the required deadlines set.

To ensure that infection prevention and control (IPC) is an integral part of service delivery

Apprentice is working towards the following job description and should not be expected to perform the full duties of the role until competencies are signed off'

Main duties of the job

Patient/customer care (both direct and indirect)

To counsel patients on their medication, where sometimes the patients may have difficulty in understanding, or English may not be their first language.

To undertake dispensing of prescriptions for inpatients and outpatients, including controlled drugs and clinical trials.

To assist with the maintenance of the Emergency drug cupboard

To assist in the replenishing of Emergency boxes.

To check stock levels in accordance with departmental procedures.

To participate in ward and department topping up, including maintaining records and checking expiry dates of medicines.

To maintain adequate stock levels of dispensing sundries

To ensure that IPC requirements are identified in all service developments and clinical policies and procedures with appropriate involvement of the IPC team.
