Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to be part of the Eye team at Guy's and St Thomas' Foundation Trust. We have a permanent job, but we welcome full or part time job share working. We can also accommodate bank working This role includes training and is suitable for an experienced ophthalmic technician or someone who wishes to undergo training to be part of the Eye Team. The working pattern included regular Saturdays. The sites covered by this role are St Thomas, Minnie Kidd and Artesian centersThe applicant must enjoy working with members of the public and have good communication and keyboard skills. We welcome applications from candidates with ophthalmic experience.This post would involve vision testing, using the iCare to measure eye pressure, visual field examination, ophthalmic imaging techniques, ensuring the ophthalmic clinics run smoothly and generally assisting patients in the eye department with their visit to the eye department.Guy's and St Thomas' are situated in central London with all the benefits of a modern European Capital. We have a health and fitness centre, social club and crche facilities.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will help provide a comprehensive excellent ophthalmic service at St Thomas' Hospital. This will involve being part of the Eye Care Team, a multidisciplinary team, testing vision, visual fields and using equipment such as autorefractors and ophthalmic imaging devices etc.

Guys and St Thomas' is one of the largest ophthalmology departments in the country. This role is an exciting opportunity to work in a major London teaching hospital as an ophthalmic technician. This essential role tests Vision, assess intra-ocular pressure, visual fields and scans such as pentacam and OCT prior to the ophthalmologists assessment of the patient. This role ensures the smooth running of the ophthalmology clinics. Ophthalmic technicians also ensure that each clinic is well stock and tidy.

Undertake vision tests on automated and non-automated charts.To be able to test vision through a pin hole.To assess intra ocular pressure with an iCare probeTest a visual field on an automated perimeter.Use the automated devices to take images on eyes e.g. OCT, Pentacam etcTo measure lens on a focimeterPut up an ophthalmic prescription in a trial frame.Use an auto-refractorTo collect drugs from PharmacyTo check and maintain supplies and equipment in an Outpatient clinic.Ensure that the clinical areas are well stocked and organisedEnsure that all equipment is working and report any breakages or damage.Observe safe working practices and equipment procedures, complying with legislative requirements under H&S regulations.

Attend mandatory training as required.Attend an appraisal or IRP at least annually.Attend meetings with the eye team.To complete incident forms for members of the eye team when necessaryObserve and maintain professional standards at all times
