Role: Senior Clinical Fellow - RBH Echocardiography
Site: Royal Brompton Hospital
This is a post in clinical Echocardiography complementing work performed by Echo Consultants and including an out-patient clinic.
Main duties of the job
The main aims are to support the clinical service and stress Echo service and to assist in training, teaching and protocol development for the Echocardiography department. The post-holder will also be expected to actively participate in audit and research.
About us
Excellent training opportunities are provided in advanced echocardiography with trained medical and healthcare scientist staff headed by the Director of Echocardiography. A training program is in place for clinical registrars. At present, several research programs are underway incorporating advanced cardiac techniques. A regular workshop in stress echocardiography including myocardial echocardiography for myocardial perfusion imaging with contrast has also been introduced.
The department of Echocardiography is situated in the brand new Diagnostic Centre which opened early this year. It has 9 echo rooms built according to the specifications laid down by BSE, 1 stress echo room and TOE suite with accompanying 3 bedded recovery suite. There are 3 other echo facilities in the hospital (2 inpatient and one outpatient). All the Echo machines in the department are brand new and of the highest specifications.

Clinical
- To perform sessions in Echocardiography including stress Echocardiography, 3D Echo and Transoesophageal Echocardiography - training in aspects of advanced echocardiography will be provided where necessary.
- To participate in Wimpole St stress echo service
- To participate in MDT meetings
- To participate in training of other members of staff
- To develop training protocols
Research
- The post-holder will carry out research as guided by the Director of Echocardiography and lead Echo consultant.
- The post-holder will adhere to Trust policy for research
Clinical, technical, departmental
- There will be a clinical commitment to maintain BSE accreditation and where possible this will be designed to complement the research work.
- Presenting at MDT meetings will be required
- All clinical duties will be under the guidance of the Director of Echocardiography
Professional
- The post holder will maintain good working relationships with medical physics, technologist, nursing, clerical, and portering staff and other health care workers.
- The post holder will abide by the policies and procedures of the Trust, in particular those procedures relating to medical care of patients.
- The post holder will be familiar with and competent in advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Managerial
- There are no specific managerial duties with this post.
Other
- The post holder will attend the monthly clinical departmental meetings, and the clinical academic meetings of the Echo Unit, at which presentations of research or other topics will be expected. Regular attendance of Royal Brompton Grand Rounds is also expected
