Dental Directorate Information
The Dental Directorate comprises the Dental Hospital located in Guy's Tower, and the Dental Centre at St Thomas'. It is one part of the Kings College London's Dental Institute which comprises three parent organisations - Guy's & St Thomas', Kings College Hospital and Kings College London (University of London), and is headed by the Dean of the overall Institute. The Directorate works in close collaboration and partnership with the Institute's academics and its counterpart colleagues at Kings College Hospital to deliver a quality NHS service across different dental specialties. Clinical activity encompasses those undertaken by qualified dentists and hygienists, postgraduate and undergraduate dental students and student hygienists. The Directorate has a large outpatient base with its own dedicated Dental Radiology department and Dental Day Care Unit. It also has a small volume of inpatient activity at the Evelina Children Hospital at St Thomas'.
Main duties of the job
Job Summary
The duties of the Specialty Dentist will be to carry out comprehensive dental care including diagnosis and treatment of those patients referred to the department of Sedation and Special Care Dentistry. You will also be expected to take part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes and contribute to research activity. There is potential to help develop a service providing oral health care to GSTT patients as part of a holistic approach to their general health in a range of medical specialities.
The post is full time with 7 DCC and 1 SPA

Job responsibilities
1. Duties and Responsibilities Clinical
Oral health care for individuals referred to the Department including those who are medically compromised, people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, sensory impairments, mental health problems and/or dental anxiety or phobia.
Treatment of patients presenting complex medical and/or management problems who are unsuitable for treatment outside a hospital environment.
Treatment of patients requiring comprehensive dental care under conscious sedation or general anaesthesia
Clinical supervision of dental hygienists/therapists and junior staff
Clinical supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Provision of sedation for patients undergoing treatment in other departments of the Dental Institute.
Assessment and treatment for inpatients within GSTT. This may involve travel to St. Thomas to see patients on wards.
Teaching
Clinically relevant teaching of conscious sedation techniques and special care dentistry to undergraduate and postgraduate students, dental staff, therapists, hygienists and dental nurses.
Administration
The post holder will be required to assist senior staff in the management of the sedation and special care clinical services and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Clinical Audit & Research
The post holder will be expected to contribute to departmental audit and research activities.
