We currently have vacancies in Somerset Ward (Plastics) within our Surgery Directorate for full time Band 5 registered nurses. The successful candidates will have an amazing opportunity to work alongside some of the most experienced and innovative clinicians in the field of plastics surgery.

Somerset Ward is a 16-bedded plastic surgery ward where patients are admitted for surgical procedureselectively and through accident & emergency and tertiary referrals from other hospitals. Patient care is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with strong support from the multidisciplinaryteam including allied health professionals.
We specialise in:
- Breast Reconstruction which includes (DIEP flaps, LD flaps, Tram flaps)
- Other reconstructionprocedures including: ALT flaps, nasal reconstruction and various local flaps.
- Skin grafts to various parts of the body.
- Simple and complex wound dressings, which includes:total negative pressure (eg. VAC therapy)
- We also specialise in looking after patients with epidermolysis bullosa (EB) post surgery.

Main duties of the job
The post holder is responsible for assessment of care needs of patients, planning programs of care, implementation and evaluation of these programs without direct supervision. At times they will have management responsibility for being in-charge of the department and supervising junior members of staff.
The post holder will be a key member in relation to the development of practice on the ward. They will be working independently/autonomously and at times without direct supervision, accountable for their own professional actions. Ensuring the safety and well being of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centered care principles.
The post requires applicant to be able to work under pressure, demonstrate excellent clinical nursing and communication skills, willingness to learn and develop new skills and strive to provide the optimum care for patients and their relatives.

- Facilitate and guide the practice based learning to ensure that it is fit forpurpose for all students.
- Monitoring and assessing the newly qualified staff toensure that practitioner meets the planneddevelopmental outcomes to practice safely andeffectively.
- Contribute to the development of training programmes for improvingthe practice and competence of all staff groups.
- Facilitate and deliver training to universal children services staff andother professionals internally and externally, as relevant.

- Work in collaboration with the GSTT Education, Training &Development department, and the service managers to ensureappropriate training is commissioned for the workforce. Holding thecentral database for commissioning of courses.
- Plan, implement and evaluate a range of teaching and learningprogrammes and opportunities to meet the learning outcomes andneeds of the staff.
- Undertake relevant train-the-trainer training (as agreed by the HON)in order to provide in-house training for the workforce.
