Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the GSTT Cardiology Bexley, Rapid Access Chest Pain Service and Community Hypertension. We are seeking a dedicated and pro-active Assistant Service Manager.

The post holder must be a strong leader who will act as the key liaison between our administrative teams and the doctors, nurses, managers and patients they support. Experience of supervising staff is essential, as is a commitment to excellent operational performance and a positive, supportive culture for all of our team members.

There will be an expectation to visit all community sites once a week for oversight. The community service is a complex sub-speciality within Cardiovascular due to the nature of working with third party companies to conduct diagnostics, track patients and liaise with all stakeholders. It is paramount that the post holder will be confident and dedicated to managing 3 services which require high level of attention and prioritisation skills.

Interviews are provisionally arranged for 17 May 2024 (though could be subject to change).

Main duties of the job

  • Support the Clinical Leads and Service Managers in managing various sections of service; this will require working autonomously to understanding & drive operating targets, budget controls, and relevant HR management.
  • Ensure effective processes and procedures are in place to monitor and track performance against agreed targets within the service that may be performance related.
  • Problem solve all day to day management issues organising and reallocating work where situations change due to variations to the work load and staffing availability.
  • Manage the analysis of data so consultants and registrars have access to timely and accurate information on all key performance indicators.
  • Plan and organise the relevant administrators within the department, setting the goals of the team in order to fit in with the demands of the consultants' timetables.
  • Exercise delegated authority on behalf of the Service Managers to resolve day-to-day management issues within the service.
  • Responding to PALS queries and patient concerns.
