Job summary
An exciting opportunity exists to appoint talented Clinical Fellows to the Breast Surgery Department at Guy's Hospital.
The successful candidate(s) will join a hardworking, passionate team of 4 Consultants, 5 Registrars/Clinical Fellows and 1 SHO, and will work closely with our Breast Care Nurse CNS team.
Appointees will gain a multitude of experience including running the one stop clinic and follow ups, weekly theatre lists (inc. reconstruction and joint oncoplastic cases), ward rounds and MDM. The post holder will participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care and to assist with service developments. The post holder will also contribute to the management of the clinical service and to service developments.
Main duties of the job
The Fellow's weekly Breast Service responsibilities will include:
2-3 half day operating sessions 5 outpatient clinics (this will include clinics at UHL) 1-2 multidisciplinary team meetings, including case preparation 1 ward round and daytime bleep holder To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care To participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training
About us
Breast Surgery is part of the Surgical Oncology directorate. It performs over 500 surgical procedures each year, of varying case mix and complexity. It receives up to 200 referrals per week, with a mixture of both cancer and non-cancer cases.
The Breast Service at GSTT is widely recognised for training, and has recently gained recognition from BRESO. As part of an academic health sciences center, you will have ample opportunity to participate in our research programs and audit. Education and clinical supervision is available for all post holders to facilitate appraisal and revalidation. Please note that this post is not recognised by the Deanery for training.
All candidates must be registered with the General Medical Council. Prior NHS experience is preferable, minimum 1 year Breast experience is required.
Start date can be flexible for the successful applicant(s) and further start dates may be available in 2023. Contract length can be negotiable and will be dependent on applicant experience and suitability.

(a) Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the trust in such hospitals, health centres or clinics or other premises as required.
(b) Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.
Training of junior staff:
The postholder will take responsibility for the training and direction of junior staff allocated to him/her under aegis of the training plan that that postholder has agreed with their supervising consultant.

All medical and dental staff are expected to take part in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol development and clinical risk management. They will be expected to produce evidence of their contribution in these areas and their audit of their own clinical work as part of their appraisal.
