The Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Clinical Group is seeking to appoint a full time Consultant in Cardiac Electrophysiology. This post is a replacement to current Locum Consultant, in situ for 6 months.

The principal role of this post is to provide clinical care for outpatients and inpatients with cardiac arrhythmias. This will require a significant commitment to outpatient clinics, inpatient care, and in the electrophysiology laboratories (including electrophysiologic studies, simple and complex ablations, implantations of pacemakers/CRT/ICD). It may be necessary for some outpatient sessions to be performed outside the Trust in order to provide the best service to our patients.It is expected that he/she will conduct research and actively contribute to the continuing and evolving clinical governance framework.

Applicants are required to be fully registered Medical Practitioners and it is deemed desirable to be on the GMC's Specialist Register or be eligible for admission to the Register.

Main duties of the job

The principal role of this post is to provide clinical care for outpatients and inpatients with cardiac arrhythmias. It may be necessary for some outpatient sessions to be performed outside the Trust in order to provide the best service to our patients.

The care of in-patients will be undertaken in conjunction with the other consultants.

Job responsibilities

The complexity of many interventional EP procedures is recognised, and as such, appropriate levels of supervision and support will be offered and required according to clinical needs by more senior consultants in the arrhythmia team.

To provide care to both inpatients and outpatients to ensure that patients are provided with the highest possible standard of diagnosis, treatment and care in the most effective and timely way.

To work with the Divisional Director (Heart), Arrhythmia Chair, and Catheter Lab Director, to ensure the smooth running of the Catheter Laboratories and to undertake and supervise electrophysiological intervention investigations within the Catheter Laboratories.

To supervise, train and manage junior medical staff and research fellows working within electrophysiology, to ensure high standards of clinical practice and efficient use of resources.

To undertake ward rounds as necessary and outpatient clinics to a programme to be agreed with the Cardiology Clinical Lead, Harefield Hospital Director and consultant cardiology colleagues - proposed timetable is shown below.

To participate in the on call service.

To actively participate in the further development of clinical audit and governance, further developing methods for capture and analysis of clinical data to measure outcomes and improve quality, in collaboration with the Trusts existing quality and governance framework.
