Job summary

This post is to replace our long-standing clinical fellow, who has recently returned to clinical training. The CF Clinical Trials Team has an exciting and expanding clinical trials portfolio. The successful candidate will work alongside the multidisciplinary team. The post is ideally suited for a trainee with paediatric respiratory training wishing to a) gain a full understanding of the CF clinical trials pipeline, and b) become trained and experienced in all aspects of clinical trial conduct including Good Clinical Practice, Research Ethics, Informed Consent, specialised outcome measures (which may include sweat testing, nasal potential difference and lung clearance index). Adult respiratory medicine trainees will also be considered.

Note:

The above description is not exhaustive, and may be altered to meet the changing needs of the post and of the directorate. The post holder will be expected to be flexible and to co-operate in accordance with the changing requirements of the directorate and of the Trust.

The post is for 12 months in the first instance, but may be extended if for a candidate wishing to remain in post longer.

Main duties of the job

Focussing on clinical trials & research in cystic fibrosis, with possible opportunities for involvement in other Chronic Suppurative Lung Diseases i.e. bronchiectasis & primary ciliary dyskinesia.

The opportunity to gain experience of adult & paediatric respiratory medicine by attending clinics/ward rounds on a supernumerary basis. The chance to develop your own research/quality improvement projects & contribute to other departmental research. If undertaking such activities, we will support abstract submissions to national/international conferences for further exposure to CF research.

No on call; possible opportunity for ad hoc cover of absences by a suitable qualified/experienced post-holder.

You are encouraged to attend Adult & Paediatric departments regular teaching activities . There are weekly respiratory seminars run through the Respiratory Clinical Research Facility.

The National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI) has excellent facilities for studying and an extensive library with all the current journals & textbooks. The NHLI is part of Imperial College, greatly enhancing the facilities available for studying and research.

Numerous postgraduate courses are held in the NHLI and the CF Department takes an active part. Postgraduate students are attached to the Department and receive tutorials and ward rounds from departmental members.

Our Cystic Fibrosis Centre is one of the largest in Europe, caring for >800 paediatrics & adults with the disease. The team comprise both clinicians & clinical academics employed by Imperial College London. There is a vibrant & productive research focus working with and alongside clinical colleagues, in areas such as microbiology, advance lung physiology/ imaging, complex diagnoses & clinical trials of novel therapies.
