This is primarily a clinical post with opportunities to participate in departmental audit and research projects. The post is for 18 months.
The post will be to provide support to the Endocrine surgical unit in the form of outpatient clinics, theatre sessions, MDT attendance, in addition to ward cover and administrative duties attached to these clinical commitments.General surgical call cover is not a planned part of the position but can be discussed if the applicant wishes.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will, along with other junior colleagues be responsible for:
- Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in such hospitals, health centres or clinics, or other premises as required.
- Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.
About us
The Department of Endocrine Surgery sits with The Department of Upper and General Surgery at St Thomas' Hospital.
Endocrine surgery service is an integral part of the Regional Thyroid Cancer service and Provides a local and regional service for Adrenal, Parathyroid, and benign thyroid pathology. There is a close working and joint one-stop thyroid clinic with the Department of Endocrinology. There are close links with the Endocrine surgery team at Kings College Hospital with cross-site working.
We operate at St Thomas Hospital on Mondays and Tuesdays and at King's on Wednesdays. We perform around 300 thyroid and parathyroid and 40 adrenal procedures per year.
Clinics are located in the Department of Endocrinology every week and at Gassiot House every fortnight. There is a fortnightly clinic at Kings. There are weekly; Thyroid MDT, endocrine MDT at STH, and an adrenal MDT at Kings.
