Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fetal medicine sonographer to join our team. We have a full time permanent position (37.5hrs) and a 30hr 12 month secondment position available. The fetal medicine unit (FMU) at St Thomas is a tertiary referral centre. The post holder will be expected to work as an independent sonographer by performing ultrasound scans to a high standard, formulate a report and communicate the results to women. The FMU runs a first trimester screening service through a One Stop Clinic for Assessment of Risk (OSCAR) model. Sonographers undertake first and second trimester screening and specialised anomaly and growth scans for high risk pregnancies. We work in partnership with the fetal medicine Consultants and specialist fetal medicine and screening midwives.

Main duties of the job
Duties and Responsibilities
The post holder will provide support to women going through the fetal medicine unit and work closely with the specialist midwives and the multidisciplinary team. She/ he will need an in depth understanding of the fetal medicine unit. The post holder will have a pivotal role in the delivery of the first trimester screening programme. The sonographer will have responsibility for giving high and low risk results to women and partners.
