Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Paediatric IMD Team based at Evelina London Children's Hospital as one of three middle grades clinical fellows, responsible for managing inpatient and outpatient care for the service. The postholder will work closely with all members of the team and will develop a greater understanding and experience managing all types of inherited metabolic disorders.
The post holder will be part of a busy and exciting tertiary metabolic service and gain invaluable experience of inherited metabolic diseases. Training in metabolic medicine can be complementary to many other specialties including endocrinology, hepatology, neurology, general and community paediatrics. As a valued member of the middle-grade team you will be included in the educational and training activities of the unit and will be offered study leave. Clinical research activities will also be encouraged.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of a friendly and enthusiastic multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to care for inpatients and outpatients with common and complex metabolic conditions. The post holder will participate in the hospital at night specialty registrar rota.

About us
The metabolic service at Evelina London provides the regional South Thames Service which accounts for 1/6th of the UK's births (100,000 births per year). There are also Paediatric IMD outreach clinics in Cambridge, Norwich, Portsmouth, Southampton and King's College Hospital, London. The Service sees over 350 new referrals each year and has over 300 admissions per year to the ward. The Service is supported by the 4 Metabolic laboratories with National and International reputations: Paediatric & Newborn Screening, Lysosomal & Enzymology, Purine Research and WellChild Research laboratories. There is also the Adult IMD Service based within the same campus which is the Regional Service for South Thames.

The Clinical Fellow will participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care and is expected to take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training. The Clinical Fellow is encouraged to become involved in the research undertaken within the department. All members of the Metabolic Team are expected to take part in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol development and clinical risk management.
The on-call commitment is as part of the paediatric medical middle grade (general, metabolic, neurology & renal) rota, coordinated by the Rota Coordinator and Dr Macaulay, General Paediatric Consultant. All annual and study leave will be co-ordinated amongst the Metabolic Middle Grades and Metabolic Team.
