Rose Ward is an established paediatric inpatient unit within the new Evelina Cardio-Respiratory and Intensive Care directorate at The Royal Brompton Hospital site.

Main duties of the job
Rose Ward is an 23 bedded unit which cares for children from birth to 16yrs with both cardiac and respiratory conditions. These include congenital, acquired heart disease, heart rhythm disturbances, cystic fibrosis and primary ciliary dyskinesia, plus thoracic surgery. There is a 4 bedded sleep unit and children Daycase in the adjacent area.
As a Band 6 senior staff nurse, you'll have the opportunity to take charge of shifts, lead on complex patient pathways, decision making within the ward setting, closely work with consultants and the multidisciplinary team, take a patient caseload, support junior staff and ensure patient safety and quality of care.

- Independently manage a group of patients within the specialty whilstworking as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care
- Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in thespeciality. To interpret information and take appropriate action and to lead others to do the same.
- Act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.
- Ensure that patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
- To be an effective communicator with patients/carers/families regarding disease treatment and management.
- Facilitate a high quality, cost effective specialist service through monitoring and audit and other quality initiatives agreed by the Trust
- Set, monitor and review standards of care on a regular basis and initiate corrective action plans
- Identify and intervene where circumstances contribute to an unsafeenvironment for patients and staff. To bring instances to the attention of the Sister/Charge Nurse for the area.
- Ensure that the learning environment and specialist training is appropriate for both pre and post registration learners and participate in the development of appropriate programs
- To assist the Sister/Charge Nurse in developing a culture that ischallenging, stimulating, rewarding and supportive.
- Promote and undertake nursing research updating own knowledge topromote excellence in clinical practice.
