Job summary

We have an exciting new job opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Inherited Cardiac conditions service, at Guys and St Thomas hospital. This is fixed term 2 year position.

If you are a highly motivated and passionate experienced cardiology nurse and are interested in an opportunity to further develop your clinical skills, this could be the job for you working within a renowned and innovative multi-disciplinary team at one of the UK's leading teaching hospitals in the heart of London.

The Cardiology Service at Guys and St Thomas has access to 64 inpatient beds, a 6 bedded CCU and an ambulatory unit for day case and treat and transfer patients. There are five catheter laboratories, a hybrid theatre and six echocardiography rooms. There is a specialised department of nuclear medicine MRI and CT scanning.

The ICC CNS team provides care for patients with a range of inherited cardiac conditions. As these are inherited conditions the CNS team is involved in the care of the family as a whole.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, passionate and experienced cardiology nurse who is able to demonstrate advanced communication, interpersonal and organisational skills and be able to work autonomously as well as part of the multi-disciplinary cardiology team.

Main duties of the job

As an ICC nurse specialist the role will include:

  • Nurse led triage clinics for patients new to the ICC service
  • Managing both cardiac and genetic aspects of the care of ICC patients
  • Providing psychological support and education for ICC patients
  • Collaborating closely with the ICC MDT to provide excellent care for ICC patients and their families.
  • The opportunity to train and develop skills in genetic counselling with the aim to provide your own genetic counselling clinics for patients undergoing genetic testing for inherited cardiac conditions.
  • Contributing to MDT meetings
  • Providing telephone and email support to the ICC patient group.

This position will involve working across the Kings Health Partnership (KHP). This means covering ICC services at GSTT and KCH as required. As such the successful applicant will also get an honorary contract at Kings College Hospital.

The ICC CNS team across the KHP network continues to develop services as required for our patient group. Recent service developments include:

  • Nurse-led Ajmaline service
  • Continued development of the paediatric to adult transition pathway
  • A nurse and physiologist led screening clinic at KCH

There is potential for the team to develop exciting new services, depending on patient and service needs. Such areas include management of LVOTO patient management, use of digital health to manage patients with Long QT, management of patients with neuromuscular and mitochondrial conditions.
