Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the outstanding Paediatric Physiotherapy Team at Evelina London Children's Hospital. This is a new role supported by the London Neonatal Operation Delivery Network. The post holder will need to be able to work as a clinical expert in the physiotherapy and management of infants on the neonatal unit. They will provide clinical supervision and support to the team at ELCH and within the local network. The role requires a knowledge of current policy and will be involved in implementing service developments both locally and nationally with data collection and analysis of information in order to identify areas for improvement and to evaluate the role of the physiotherapist on the neonatal unit.

Main duties of the job

  1. To work as a clinical expert in the physiotherapy management of infants on the neonatal units.
  2. To lead on the identification of and implementation of early intervention for at risk infants.
  3. To maintain good communication and relationships with London neonatal operational delivery network leads and maintain a profile within the network.
  4. To manage complex and vulnerable infants and any challenging family situations.
  5. To ensure physiotherapy clinical guidelines and referral criteria are in-line with latest evidence for any respiratory, orthopaedic, neurological or neurodevelopmental issues.
  6. To benchmark service provision against national recommendations and develop/advise on any service improvement projects.
  7. To provide clinical supervision and peer support to teams within the Trust and within local network.
  8. To be an expert resource for physiotherapy opinion to the neonatal MDT.
  9. To be a source of expert opinion both in the Trust and externally.
  10. To have a high level of understanding of own role and other roles in the neonatal MDT.
  11. To be involved in family integrated care drivers and new practices.
  12. To demonstrate motivational leadership and influence change.
  13. To engage with national neonatal groups.

  • MSc. in relevant clinical area or equivalent post registration courses in advanced neonatal assessment skills
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development at 'M' level including attendance at recent post graduate courses relevant to neonatal care

  • Leadership/Training courses

Skills/Knowledge/ Ability

  • Advanced knowledge of early intervention
  • Ability to act as expert resource on neonatal physiotherapy
  • Clear understanding of other disciplines' roles and expectations
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
