Job summary
Samaritan ward is a 25 bedded Oncology and Haematology ward, Caring for patients that usually have a diagnosis of cancer, leukaemia, lymphoma or sickle cell anaemia. The nursing skills and knowledge learned can be transferred to other clinical areas.
The Sister/Charge nurse will be responsible for the clinical leadership and managerial functions of the area.The Sister/Charge nurse will manage the day to day running of the service working closely with the Sisters/Charge Nurses of the other adult cancer wards and the chemotherapy and haematology day units. Other key links are the clinical tumourspecific teams and clinical nurse specialists and sickle cell team.

Main duties of the job
The Sister/Charge nurse will manage the nursing staff and ensure that their educational and development needs are identified and supported. This will be an essential component of the role as the ward will be responsible for the delivery of chemotherapy, supportive therapy and end of life care. They will ensure a skilled and resilient workforce are in place to ensure the very best experience for our patients is essential. The successful applicant will have a proven record of implementing effective recruitment and retention strategies including supporting with staff well-being and professional development.

They will be a professional leader and role model applying clinical skills of the highest standard taking a proactive approach to developing competence in themselves and others. The Sister/Charge nurse will be a source of expertise and support for the nursing team. They will work closely with other Sisters in the Directorate and Clinical Group as well as the other senior nursing leaders including deputising as appropriate. They will support and lead their team through the process of change demonstrating tenacity, drive and professional integrity.
