Senior Staff Nurse- Interstitial Lung Disease - Band 6

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic respiratory nurse to join the Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) team within the Respiratory Service at the Trust.

The focus of the post to lead a project prospectively building the ILD clinical database and to recruit patients to the ILD BTS registry.

ILD is an area of great growth and change; the post holder will be required to adapt to and lead these changes as part of the multidisciplinary team and we are therefore looking for an ambitious, well-motivated nurse who has demonstrable, interpersonal and organisational skills. A good understanding and experience of respiratory care is essential. The post holder will benefit from good team support and development of clinical decision making / skill set support as necessary.

Main duties of the job

The focus of the post to lead a project prospectively building the ILD clinical database and to recruit patients to the ILD BTS registry which will help to stratify patients by diagnostic subgroup and disease behavior and allow exploration of different disease prototypes.

To work alongside the MDT to utilize data from the registry to explore new ways of monitoring and supporting patients.

To be hospital based providing direct care, education and support for patients and acting as a specialist resource when liaising with and facilitating the best use of all available services.

To deliver remote support to patients, families, professional and lay carers using telephone and internet services.

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients with ILD and sarcoidosis.

To facilitate and monitor the management of care for patients with ILD who inpatients and support discharge in conjunction with the ward team and MDT are.

To act as a resource for patients and their families, giving advice, education and support that is appropriately planned to meet each individual's needs.

Empower patients to manage their treatment regimes, to recognise any deterioration or acute episodes requiring immediate specialist attention and how to access the necessary support.

To develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge of the specialty of ILD that is evidenced based aiming to achieve a 'best practice' principle.

To mentor post registration and pre-registration students as requested.

To participate in the in-house adult education programme and to undertake informal teaching of ward nursing staff as required.

To support Link Nurses on each ward/unit.

To act as a role model and clinical resource for staff providing education as appropriate.

To work in partnership with colleagues, having accountability for decisions made (in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct).

To develop professional practice through reflection, participation on post registration courses and attendance at meetings and conferences.

To identify and be responsible for your own professional development in liaison with the Matron and clinical nurse specialist.
