This is a unique and exciting opportunity to undertake an Educational Clinical Fellow role in Anesthetics at Guys and St Thomas Hospital
A key purpose of the post is to support the Trust in its delivery and development of high quality educational programme.
Main duties of the job
Education
This post is aimed at anaesthetic trainees who are interested in gaining skills, experience and in training and education. Fellows can expect to be involved in various local, regional, national and international courses run in the department.
Fellows will also be expected to participate in the planning, organization, and delivery of educational activities in the department such as exam courses and multidisciplinary teaching associated with TAP Academy. Digital resources are being prepared for supplementation of face to face teaching. The fellowship enables individuals to experience a range of education development opportunities and undertake an educational project / audit.
Throughout the course of the fellowship, and beyond, education fellows will be encouraged to observe, experience, and reflect on the educational activities they engage in. They will be opportunities to shadow people in senior educator roles in the department e.g., GSTT, HEE, Royal College, DAS and to observe educational meetings
Clinical
Clinical duties will be on call commitments on an appropriate Rota matching the clinical fellow's experience and training grade. Suitable elective training lists will be accommodated in the working schedule after initial meeting with Training lead and educational supervisor to support the learning needs and career path of the clinical education fellow.

Clinical
The postholder will, together with colleagues, be responsible for the provision of anaesthetic services to the Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust to include:
(a) Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the trust in such hospitals, health centres or clinics or other premises as required.
(b) Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.
Clinical Governance
All medical and dental staff are expected to take part in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol development and clinical risk management. They will be expected to produce evidence of their contribution in these areas and their audit of their own clinical work as part of their appraisal.
Educational Programme
An educational supervisor will be allocated to the successful candidate for the duration of their fellowship. A suitable working timetable relevant to the trainees educational needs and training path will be discussed to be accommodated within the training program.
This post is Trust Clinical Fellow post and is not a part of the South London School of Anesthesia Training Program. The post holder will be expected to attend and contribute to educational activities e.g. weekly educational program, multidisciplinary meetings, journal clubs etc. The post holder will be supported for FRCA examination (or equivalent) preparation if required similar to all other trainees in the department. The clinical fellow will be entitled to an annual study leave budget.
