Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

These posts are for ST3 and above Clinical Fellows who are working towards applying for specialist registration in Anaesthetics via the CESR equivalence route in the South east London region.

The CESR programme will run over a period of 1 to 4 years depending on the need of the candidate and the availability of training spaces in participating hospitals. It will include working across three hospitals - Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (including Evelina Paediatric hospital), Lewisham General Hospital and National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN). Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital will be the main employer but the Clinical Fellows will have their time divided roughly equally at GSTT and Lewisham hospitals with a 3 month rotation for Neuro-anaesthesia at NHNN if required.

The programme consists of structured rotation through all stage 2 and 3 anaesthetic modules to allow the fellow to accrue the required evidence needed for a successful CESR application.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have a similar working pattern to trainees in the training programme spending half of their time working in an elective clinical setting and half of their time participating in the on-call service rota matched to their experience to date and experience requirements.

A consultant anaesthetist will locally supervise daytime elective theatre work and out of hours they will be locally supervised by the team leader trainee and ultimately by the on- call consultant team.

The candidate will not be expected to work outside their safe level of competence
