This advert is for a substantive Consultant appointment within Paediatric Neurosciences at Evelina London Children's Hospital the service. As currently described, this is a whole time clinical post. This arrangement is flexible and applicants with a track record of research or definable research interests that complement the specialist component of the post are also invited to apply.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the neurosciences department in its provision of acute neurology with a special interest in movement disorders, neuro-rehabilitation and long-term outpatient care to children with complex disabling neurological disorders within the South East Thames region. He/ she will do weekly clinics in the Complex Movement Disorders Service, in assessment for and in-patient support of children who may benefit from neurosurgical tone interventions (Deep Brain Stimulation and Intrathecal Baclofen pumps.) In addition the post holder will support the Neurodisability movement / co-morbidity service at the ELCH in the provision of outpatient clinics and the provision of a weekly interventional Botulinum Toxin injection list. They will also take a shared role in the delivery of rehabilitation services at Evelina London Children's Hospital following acute brain injury (2 in-patient therapy led rehabilitation beds.)
The Acute on call commitment for this role is on a 1:8-9 intensity, covering the acute paediatric neurology service, with responsibility for oversite of the inpatient Paediatric Neurology case load. Whilst on call, the post holder will also be responsible for providing support and advice to a large number of inpatient services (including Paediatric Intensive Care, Inherited metabolic medicine and Paediatric Cardiology), along with a remote service for District General Hospitals in the South East Thames regions.
About us
The Paediatric Neuroscience Service is a tertiary service at the Evelina London Children's Hospital, providing an integrated and comprehensive neurology, neurorehabilitation and neurodisability service to children and families from South East Thames and beyond, serving a total population of over 9 million people. There are also elective Neurosurgery lists on sites, with the emergency service being run at the Kings College hospital site nearby.
Paediatric Rehabilitation and Neurodisability Services are provided from a recently refurbished outpatient department with a new inpatient facilities shared with the Long term Ventilation unit on the St Thomas' site. The Neurosciences ward is in the Evelina London Children's hospital adjacent. Interventions are performed on the new day care unit also in the South Wing of St Thomas' Hospital.
The Complex Motor Disorders Service (CMDS) provides a supra-regional service to children and young people, undertaking diagnosis and detailed evaluation and support of children who might benefit from neurosurgical interventions such as continuous intrathecal baclofen (ITB) pump implantation and deep brain stimulation (DBS) neuromodulation. The work of the CMDS requires close working with the Functional Neurosurgeons and Paediatric Neurosurgeons within Neurosurgical Service, The CMDS is amongst the larger provider of DBS to children and young people in Europe, operating to date on >240 cases.
