Main duties of the job

The post will deliver general medicine and diabetes and has been created to support the wider working of the Department with expansion of several diabetes services. This is an excellent opportunity to join a first class team in an active and progressive central London teaching hospital environment.

The post will involve working with existing members of the Consultant team and wider MDT to provide general and specialist services. The role will include participation in the GIM rota and community working.

The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Professional Qualifications

Essential

  • Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practise.
  • On GMC Specialist Register or within six months to attaining CCT in diabetes and endocrinology or equivalent
  • SCE in Diabetes and Endocrinology

Desirable

  • Higher Degree in relevant area

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Fully trained in Diabetes, Endocrinology & Acute Medicine
  • Excellent clinical skills and experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the Job Plan
  • Experience in managing complex patients multidisciplinary team working and apply sound clinical judgement to problems
  • Demonstrates clear, logical thinking/analytical approach

Desirable

  • Evidence of clinical or research/audit commitment and a relevant speciality interest
  • Experience of working with acute complex diabetes and endocrinology disorders

Clinical Skills

Essential

  • Ability to manage all the typical cases seen in inpatient and outpatient adults in diabetes, endocrinology and GIM.
  • Experience in managing complex Diabetes inpatients with acute and chronic Diabetes problems

Desirable

  • Clinical team leadership skills
  • Demonstrable interest in supporting service development and quality improvement
  • Ability to independently perform and interpret complex endocrinology investigations

Audit Management and IT

Essential

  • Good track record of clinical governance, audit, management and IT skills required.
  • Understanding of principles of audit.
  • Demonstrate quality improvement projects

Desirable

  • Experience in clinical guideline and pathway development.

  • A track record of research, publications/ understanding / knowledge of Research ethics.
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff.
