Full and Part Time permanent vacancies have arisen within the Phlebotomy department for two experienced Phlebotomists to join our team. This post you will be working within our adult Departments.
The successful candidates will show a willingness to train and develop their existing skills as well as work with speed and accuracy. You should be a self-motivated individual able to manage your own workload whilst responding to urgent requests from both nursing and medical teams.
You must have excellent communication skills and evidence that you can build and maintain professional relationships within the multi professional team within the care group.
The post will cover a range of shifts and will include some weekend shifts. The current service covers 8:30-17:30 Monday- Friday, 9:00-13:00 Saturday & 9:00- 18:00 Sunday including Bank Holidays.

Main duties of the job
The Phlebotomy team at the Royal Brompton is dedicated to providing World Class Care to our patients. We are looking for experienced full-time and weekend phlebotomy and cannulation technicians to join our Phlebotomy Department. The successful candidates will maintain a high standard of phlebotomy practice that is focused on patient care and safety. You will be required to work as part of a team delivering excellent phlebotomy and cannulation service on our wards and clinics and obtain quality blood specimens for testing by the Pathology laboratories.

- To correctly identify patients using the systems in place and also by verbal response.
- To record on the worksheets provided, details of all patients bled with paper requests, including number and type of samples taken, and to submit this information to the Phlebotomy Manager on a daily basis.
- To enter a message on the electronic system when a patient has not been bled.
- To provide assistance with the Remote Testing Service within phlebotomy.
- To provide reassurance to patients undergoing phlebotomy, including those with learning and language difficulties.
- To ensure that contact with all patients, staff and visitors is courteous and professional, and that patients privacy, religious and cultural beliefs are respected.
- To communicate promptly to the Phlebotomy Manager, any comments about any area of the phlebotomy service, by patients, relatives or other staff
Reporting incidents on DATIX and any issues regarding safety and quality to the manager
