Job summary

The Health Informatics department supports the Trust by providing high-quality information and advice in support of operational, clinical and financial performance management and decision-making. The department supports both the Clinical Directorates and corporate departments, as well as servicing the information needs of external stakeholders. The Director of Performance and Informatics is a member of the Chief Operating Officer's management team.

The Trust is embarking on the adoption of a new EHR, a joint program with Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (KCH), due to go live in October 2023, which will substantially change the information landscape of the Trust and bring substantial benefits to Patients. The Informatics team is being shaped to make best use of that new landscape to drive effective operations and service improvement across the Trust. This role is part of that preparation.

This post will be the trusts senior technical lead and service manager responsible for the management, delivery, and strategic direction of the service. The technology environment consists of legacy Oracle and Business Objects information platforms together with newly developed Microsoft Business Intelligence systems using SQL Server BI (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS) delivered via a presentation layer Power BI (Report Server), SharePoint, and Office 2013.

Main duties of the job

The Head of Information Development and Design is responsible for managing the Trust's existing data warehouse arrangements.

The post-holder will lead any transition process from existing arrangements to any new warehouse capability, with responsibility for developing improved data management & reporting processes. Supporting development of a blended data environment as part of the Epic system deployment jointly with KCH & the Apollo deployment program. The post holder will be an Epic expert, developing highly specialist configuration knowledge of the Epic implementation & modules in order to provide leadership for Health Informatics and wider teams.

The post-holder will have overall responsibility for the development, maintenance & strategy for integration of Trust informatics platforms (SQL Server, Power BI) with Epic based reporting technologies & capabilities.

The scope of these responsibilities to include the Trust's data warehouses & Integrated Reporting Environments & Epic reporting tools (Cogito, Clarity, Caboodle, SlicerDicer) managed on behalf of GSTT by other teams.

The role will deliver a focus on Business Intelligence design & process change underpinned by a robust programme management approach to turn strategy & vision into functional design that meets the objectives/ obligations of the Trust. The post holder will be the Trust expert in interpretation & understanding of requirements in the application of NHS Data dictionary & Model standards over time.
