This is an exciting opportunity to join the preceptorship programme at a world leading Trust. We offer an opportunity to consolidate your skills as a midwife through rotations to the Labour Ward, Postnatal Ward and the Antenatal Ward. On successful completion of your preceptorship programme you will move to a band 6 rotational job between Labour ward and Postnatal ward and can apply for other substantive positions in the trust.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an assessment centre, You will be required to pass the practical element before progressing onwards for an interview on the same day.
Please note the following information about this job role:
- The preceptorship programme involves 12 months of band 5 clinical rotations: 6 months in Hospital Birth Centre (Labour Ward), 4 months on the Postnatal Ward and 2 months on our Antenatal ward.

Main duties of the job
You will rotate on Hospital Birth Centre (Labour Ward) gaining confidence caring for women and their babies. You will be supported to develop your competencies in suturing and cannulation. You will be expected to participate in the care of women requiring both high and low risk care, bereavment care, induction of labour and the immediate postnatal period. We work as part of a MDT and you will liaise with and receive support from other health care professionals on the ward such as doctors, nurses and more senior midwives.
As part of your postnatal ward rotation you will be responsible for the ongoing care of women and their babies providing safe and supportive care. Developing your skills in breastfeeding support, wound care and management of transitional care babies. You will work as part of the MDT to make appropriate referrals into other services and facilitate discharges into community care.
The Antenatal Ward is a high risk midwifery area which involves complex medical care and the early stages of inductions of labour
You will be supported by our practice leaders, our CFP, PMAs and PDM team to build on your skills and confidence as you progress through your midwifery career.
