Job summary
To undertake a technical role in the maintenance operation and installation of the range of building services, equipment and systems with a electrical bias but applying basic skills in other trade fields as required. Having a team approach in providing quality maintenance service whilst supporting the Hospital in providing excellent patient care.
Main duties of the job
To carry out the planned maintenance of the Hospital plant and equipment and unplanned works.
This to include:- Electrical Systems - Mains LV switchgear, Plant systems, controls systems, Final circuit wiring systems and accessories, Fire alarm Systems, Nurse Call Systems, Medical Gas Systems,
To diagnose & repair faults on the above plant and equipment in response to emergency calls. To assist Estates Officers in carrying out fault diagnosis and subsequently to carry out repairs or modifications.
To modify existing plant, equipment, controls & distribution systems. This to include, if necessary, testing of systems.
To install temporary installations when appropriate & safe to do so.
To manufacture or modify equipment & parts as required from drawings & sketches using tools and equipment as appropriate.
To undertake testing as part of any planned maintenance & following minor installations or modifications.
To supervise the work of apprentices and assistants.
To undertake lift rescues.
To carry out basic servicing tasks in whichever field the post holder is not craft-qualified, commensurate with training and safety requirements.
To participate in the 'on call' rota system, to provide 24 hour call out cover to resolve or leave safe varied emergency situations.
To carry & respond to electronic communication systems.
To provide attendance to external contractors (when required).
To manufacture, assemble and install new work.
To be part of "The first response" fire team.

Judgements involving a range of facts, which require analysis and comparison of a range of options. Problem solving and analysing faulty equipment interpret operational manuals, establish best solution for problem.
