Job summary
As part of the Medical Education portfolio, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) offer Visiting Professional Programmes (VPPs) for clinicians including doctors, nurses and allied health professionals. Our Medical Education programme have been created for clinicians who wish to observe, practice and gain experience at GSTT in operation as a London teaching hospital in the UK.
The expansion of the Visiting Professional Programme has created an opportunity for a Programme Executive to help drive the delivery of new programs and support the Business Development Manager and Operation.
The job holder will be primarily responsible for leading the program operations, line managing the programme assistants & admins including day-to-day mentoring, performance development records, training, leading business lines operations, developing the growth of the program with the business development manager as well as implementing the Visiting Professional Programme strategy.
The Programme Executive will work closely with clinical and operational teams in identifying and supporting the delivery of new opportunities to help commercial services diversify income through overseas educational opportunities. Provide complete support to the Business Development Manager within all available business lines of Visiting Professional Programmes.
Main duties of the job
Operation
- Contribute fully to the review of the Visiting Professional Programme processes and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency.
- Introduce innovations to enhance the quality and impact of GSTT's Observerships, Clinical Attachments (hands-on), and the Clinical Fellowship Program.
Communications
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills when dealing with all levels of staff across the Trust and with applicants and delegates using persuasion, tact, and reassurance where necessary.
- To work and support the Business Development Manager in identifying new channels of communication.
- To be able to influence, motivate and involve individuals and teams to reach necessary performance targets.
- Successfully communicate to internal and external stakeholders to ensure the achievement of objectives and strategies.
Staff Management
- Responsible for effective supervision and training for the Visiting Professional Programme assistants and admins
- Provide induction training for all new members of the team on the content of the VPPs and how to answer queries and processing applications
Financial and physical resources
- Manage and monitor the performance to ensure that the business meets its financial and operating targets
- Ensure that all Visiting Professional Programmes which are established by the team are in line with the agreed priorities and that they are appropriately evaluated for the costs with an appropriate margin and therefore profitable for the Trust.

The Commercial Education and Events Team
The Education &Events team was established just over 5 years ago, initially, the focus was on identifying existing events that were running in the Trust and ensuring that these were run professionally and to the highest quality standards. The portfolio has gradually expanded and now includes workshops, visiting professional programs, masterclasses, conferences, and educational visits for a wide range of markets including primary, secondary, and tertiary care, and for regional, national, and international markets.
The Visiting Professional Programme offers for overseas clinicians to undertake an observership, clinical attachment, and Clinical Fellowship on a commercial basis, which has seen substantial growth over the past years. The financial targets that have been set and will be reinvested into the Trust's clinical front-line services.
