Evelina London Children's Hospital, St Thomas' Hospital
Locum Consultants in Paediatric Surgery
From£84,559 - £114,003 p.a excl. LZ (pro rata)
Full Time - 10 PA
We are seeking two full-time (10 PA) Locum Consultants to join the Paediatric and Neonatal Surgical department. There is currently a need to create additional capacity in the department. This is partly due to a colleague taking a period of sabbatical leave and partly due to established consultants taking on roles external to the service. Whilst the posts are anticipated to be for very general paediatric and neonatal surgical provision, the department is committed to subspecialisation and successful applicants would be encouraged to work with established consultants in the department and develop their experience and expertise in their chosen area of practice.
Paediatric General Surgery is a key service for the Evelina Children's Hospital and beyond. The department offers a wide range of outpatient services across the South East, in particular at Lewisham Hospital and Darent Valley, where the surgical team also perform day case surgery. There are also outreach outpatient clinics at a number of affiliated DGHs which the successful applicant would be expected to undertake.
Main duties of the job
You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a License to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent at the interview stage.
The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
As an organisation, we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This includes asking certain groups of staff to work more flexibly so that we can offer services to patients in the evenings and at weekends. We regard this flexibility as essential if we are to continue to provide first class patient care in the future. As a result, any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern of working in the future if required and in accordance with the provisions of the new Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust consultant contract.

Our directorate consists of ten services for children including eight surgical specialties, intensive care, and theatres. With an annual income of £80 million, we see over 50,000 outpatients and perform over 8,500 procedures a year. We deliver care in our specialist children's hospital - which will soon include our new day surgery centre, due to open in early 2022 - in the community, and in other hospitals across the South Thames Paediatric Network.
