Job summary

Due to the expansion of the interstitial lung disease (ILD) service at the Royal Brompton Hospital, we have a newly created post which is an exceptional opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced pharmacist to develop, deliver and lead a clinical pharmacy service to patients under the care of the ILD team.

The Adult Respiratory Medicine service at the Royal Brompton Hospital is a tertiary referral centre for adult patients with respiratory diseases and interstitial lung disease is one of a number of specialties which also include asthma, cystic fibrosis and infection.

We are looking for a pharmacist with the vision and associated service development and negotiation skills to lead and develop a pharmacy service to ILD patients. This will include developing and implementing clinics and forging strong working relations with members of the multidisciplinary teams.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work towards consultant credentialing in ILD.

Main duties of the job

  • To lead, deliver, develop and evaluate medicines optimisation in respiratory patients, particularly those with interstitial lung disease (ILD).
  • To provide a consistently high, safe and innovative pharmaceutical service to respiratory patients, in particular those patients taking immunosuppressant and antifibrotic drugs.

  • To lead and support the development of protocols and guidelines, as well as assist in education and training particularly for the ILD Service.

  • To implement and maintain collaborative working between the Respiratory Medicine pharmacy teams across both the Royal Brompton and Guy's and St Thomas' sites.

  • To develop and maintain specialist knowledge in medicines used within respiratory medicine, in particular ILD.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and committees.
  • To monitor, audit and provide specialist support for medicines related risk and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team in reducing and managing such risk.
  • To deliver safe, efficient and cost-effective use of medicines including antifibrotics and immunosuppressants by the provision of education and training, procedures, protocols and medicines usage information.
  • To support the Homecare service for ILD patients including screening and prescribing of prescriptions.
