Job summary
The Cardio-Oncology fellow will be part of the Cardio-oncology team at the Royal Brompton hospital, working closely with the two consultants, Dr. Lyon and Professor Rosen, the Heart Failure and Cardio-Oncology nurse specialist, and the administration staff. The Cardio-Oncology service at the Royal Brompton hospital was initiated in 2011 and receives up to 400 new referrals per annum, offering a range of the complex medical issues seen in a busy Cardio-oncology service. In 2022 the service has been awarded a Gold award as a Cardio-Oncology centre of Excellence by the International Cardio-Oncology Society for its outstanding service to patients, and educational opportunities provided to trainees. The fellow is responsible for preparing the information and results for new referrals and presentation in the Cardio-oncology multidisciplinary team meeting (MDT). The fellow will also be responsible for management of Cardio-oncology patients admitted for acute care or investigations, and reviewing inpatients with cancer and acute cardiovascular disease in our partner oncology hospitals with acute cardiac conditions. The fellow will be required to maintain the Cardio-oncology database, review incoming clinical correspondence related to patients cared for in the service, and liaise with the consultants and nurse on a regular basis regarding specific clinical questions.
Main duties of the job

To be part of the cardio-oncology cardiology service at Royal Brompton Hospital in collaboration with medical and surgical colleagues and other departments and services.
Participate in new patient and follow-up consultant-led outpatient clinics.
Provide inpatient services to cardio-oncology and cardiology patients.
Participate in an on-call rota covering inpatient activity and emergency work.
Supervise and train junior staff allocated to cardiology.
To work as a full member of the multi-disciplinary team, including participation in the rota and the attendance and presentation at weekly MDTs and meetings.
To undertake regular ward rounds to ensure effective management during the in-patient stay and early discharge of patients whenever possible.
Participate in audit within the department and maintain the cardio-oncology database.
Participate fully in the service and training programme of the Division.
Perform bedside transthoracic echocardiography when on call.
Support the cardio-oncology service and liaise with oncology partners at other hospitals.
